Carolyn says: Heartbreaking as it is beautiful, All The Light We Cannot See uses stunningly descriptive language to tell the stories of two children caught up in the chaos of WWII. Marie-Laure is the blind daughter of a French museum curator and must protect a historical jewel from the Nazi art thieves, Werner is a German orphan with a knack for machinery that catches the eye of Nazi recruiters. It’s a story of humanity in the face of tragedy. An absolute must read.
Kathleen says: Don’t be fooled by the title–this book will have you feeling the entire spectrum of human emotion by the end. Authors and former college rivals, Gus and January, make a pact to write books in each other's genres and, of course, find their own love story in the process. BUT! This book is so much more than the romance–heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. I am begging you to read it!
Caroline says: Following his usual magical realism stories, HITCS introduces readers to a group of magical children who live in an orphanage and are looked after by the elusive and intriguing Mr. Parnassus. When caseworker Linus Baker arrives to investigate the home, readers embark on journeys of magic, friendship, family, and love. A must read for Potterheads!
Sarah says: This is one of my all time favorite thrillers! It features a dual POV between a survivor of the Butterfly Garden and one of the FBI agents who is trying to figure out what happened. It’s a little bit of a retelling of The Collector by FOwler, but more extreme. Hutchinson is amazing with handling such a crazy, sad plot, multiple characters that you will love and hate, and insane plot twists that will make you binge read this one!!
Michaela says: If you have read a lot of YA Fantasy and you are interested in delving into adult fantasy, V.E. Schwab is a great start. I love their dark version of London and I credit this series with pulling me out of a major reading slump. BONUS? V.E. runs a fabulous free newsletter about what she is reading, writing, listening to, baking, and includes adorable pictures of their dogs. They are queer, talented, and all of the books are fab!
Caroline says: For my fellow Psychology nerds or for those simply interested in how the mind works, Unsettled Minds and the Stories That Make Them introduces readers to four different people experiencing unique psychological variations. This book also serves as a reminder that mental health is not a one dimensional topic. Whether you need a book for the plane, or are just trying a new genre, this book will have you hooked!
Sarah says: This book is probably one of my all-time faves. It follows two college best friends–turned strangers–to becoming friends again, and maybe more. The characters are extremely likeable and relatable–I really connected with Poppy–and the plot is so good, fun, and sweet. An amazing read!!!
Sarah says: This horror thriller brought me so much excitement and joy. Told in different perspectives throughout the chapters, Alex North had very well-developed characters that I genuinely felt for. Tom and Jack deserve the world, and every twist & new past-life detail hurts.
